PANTONE ® Color Table Converter for Wasatch SoftRIP

Purpose

As of Version 7.3, Wasatch SoftRIP can import Spot Color Characterization Data that is formatted in accord with CxF.  This includes PANTONE® color libraries. VistaLogics offers a free program for those who have earlier versions of Wasatch SoftRIP.

PANTONE® Converter for Wasatch converts an open standards file containing L*a*b* information for PANTONE® named colors to a format that is used by Wasatch SoftRIP. The file that is converted is produced by PANTONE® Color Manager.

Installation

PANTONE® Converter for Wasatch runs in Windows or on Apple MAC OSX 10.9.5 or greater. Download the installation file for your computer platform, then run the installer.

IMPORTANT: This is an unregistered Apple application, so the first time this program is opened on a Mac it will report a security exception. See this note from Apple.

To override your security settings and open the app anyway:

1. In Finder, locate the app you want to open. Don’t use Launchpad to do this. Launchpad doesn’t allow you to access the shortcut menu.
2. Press the Control key, then click the app icon.
3. Choose Open from the shortcut menu.
4. Click Open.

The app is then saved as an exception to your security settings, and you will be able to open it in the future by double-clicking it, just like any registered app.

PANTONE® Color Manager is a product of X-Rite Incorporated. A licensed copy of PANTONE® Color Manager is required to use PANTONE® Converter for Wasatch.

This is a brief summary of how to use the program:

• Create the L*a*b* specification file using PANTONE® Color Manager and save it as a CxF3 or Text file. We suggest using the Windows version. The text file option may not be available on the Apple Mac versions of PANTONE® Color Manager. Some CxF3 files may not convert correctly.
• Open the file in PANTONE Converter for Wasatch. Then create the Wasatch SoftRIP CSV file.
• Create a Color Database.
  
• Import the CSV file into the Color Database. Be sure the set the correct Imaging Configuration for the import -- CIE Lab D50.
  
• Open the Colors Menu and select Special Colors. Then click Color Database and select the database you just created. This will create a color table for the specific imaging configuration you are working with. This imaging configuration must include an ICC profile.
  
• The Pantone Spot Test pdf can be used to validate the Wasatch SoftRIP Special Colors Table. If the relevant squares are colored then the installation is validated.
